Sole Bay Fish Company

This is a fantastic place to eat if you're a seafood lover if you're staying in Southwold it's a fabulous half an hour walk down the beach to the harbour and then five minutes along the riverside to them. There is some parking, and in summer the ferry to Walberswick as well. We were their only lunch customers, but it was the first week of January. The food was utterly delicious, another one of those places I want to give a 6th star to. Starters of Crevettes and battered Oysters. The Crevettes were sweet, meaty and so fresh. The Lemon Mayo was beautiful. The Beer Battered Oyster was creamy and I could have eaten a bowl full! Main courses were Mussels and Fish Chips and Mushy Peas with Curry Sauce. Piping hot and absolutely fantastic. One of the loveliest and freshest pieces of fish I've had in such a long time. Faultless. Wines were lovely, staff were chatty and friendly, and we weren't rushed. On the way out we bought some peeled prawns and Sea Bass filletshich we had for tea the following day. They were simply superb as well, so fresh. If I lived in Southwold I'd want to eat there every week! Absolutely faultless.

Came for lunch in September so apologies for the late review but we had a great time!! The food was great and buying the platers to share made it fairly reasonable for such amazing fish!! Will be returning for sure!!

Outstanding piece of fish a d a fine meal. My father's 83rd birthday and he loves fish and chips. Beautiful plaice fillets, deep fried for the right amount of time (light and moist, not firm and dry like most places manage) with a really superb crisp, light batter. The cod was great too, very fresh, and the crevette salad my mum had was first class she reckoned. The chef very kindly made us deep fried gherkins, something they had ten years ago, and they were excellent - he even brought them to us himself. Fantastic service from the two ladies at front of house, they were really great. Absolutely brilliant birthday lunch. Thank you!

Went for lunch to Sole Bay Fish Company today. What a fantastic place, staff friendly, food absolutely wonderful. Would highly recommend it to anyone going to Southwold. Will definately go back as soon as we get another short break again. Well done to the whole team.

Picture the scene.... A bleak, drizzly October day, the sludgy grey of the muddy water bleeds into the overcast sky. A howling wind whips through the air as the creaking boats moan wearily in their moorings. Like the foolish tourists you are, of course you forgot your big coat...of course everyone's grumpy and cold cos they didn't eat breakfast...of the course the posh (slightly stuck up) French place you just walked past closed their kitchen about 2 mins ago.... But fear not! Little did you know you are about to stumble across Sole Bay Fish Company and have the best fish and chips you'll ever have in your *life*. This place absolutely slaps! The fish and chips are exceptional (and really stonking value considering the fish is literally fresh from the sea, and the chips are *actually* handcut - such a unicorn finding these days). The fish was exceptionally cooked (I went rogue and tried sea bass, it was fab), and the homemade tartare sauce was perfectly tart and tangy. The shanty town vibe exterior and nonchalant staff actually augment the overall experience of this absolute gem. 10/10 recommend. Would genuinely come back here just for this delightful surprise.
