Today was the third time in the past two months when a friend and I visited The Swan for morning coffee. We have both been independent visitors over many years , but ,due to personal circumstances, these trips had declined. It was with great excitement that we read that The Swan had been refurbished , and with a new general manager. It was with high expectations, that we both looked forward to revisiting, this wonderful building. Our first visit a few weeks ago, was reminiscent of an episode of Fawlty Towers! The heating wasn't working and the fires not lit. As it was particularly cold outside, it was a dismal visit. On enquiring, it transpired that the maintenance person was repairing the roof and was not able to chop the necessary kindling wood to get the fire started. My suggestion that someone went across the road to buy fire lighters, fell on ' deaf ears'!! As the first experience was so under whelming, we decided to try again. Sadly, the same complaints and concerns were very much the same. Today, two, reception staff were sitting at their desk, and not one, greeted us. There were no staff to be found , so again we had to go and search. It was the intervention of another guest, who eventually, sought out some staff, explaining that there were a considerable number of people waiting to be served. This is such a wonderful building and location, I can't help but notice that standards in the hotel have declined.

We absolutely loved our stay at The Swan. From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by the receptionist and shown to our beautiful room. The lounges were warm and cosy, where we relaxed before dinner. Both the evening meal and breakfast were excellent as was the restaurant manager and waiting staff. Will definitely be back!

There is an old saying in hospitality that a good reputation is hard earnt and easily lost. After over 30 years visiting The Swan in Lavenham we decided to buy a home in Lavenham to enjoy our retirement. For the first few months we visited The Swan for lunch, a bottle of wine and pint of beer (The Stormy Cape chenin blanc is always good and the Nethergate Suffolk County Ale absolutely outstanding) and all seemed just as we had always experienced - excellent. HOWEVER, there has clearly been a change in management in recent months. No longer can we now pop in for lunch, or just a light meal as we are not welcomed as 'non-residents'. So our visits have reduced from at least 3 times a week, spending on average £200 a week to......Zero. It's not the general staffs fault of course. Whoever is now managing The Swan has clearly decided that The Swan is purely a destination hotel designed purely for hotel guests and that local residents, or walk ins are neither required or welcome. How disappointing. I wish the new manager well. This of course is 2026 and I absolutely guarantee you that The Swans revenues will have reduced since this policy of discouraging trade has been implemented. Fortunately there are a number of excellent hospitality alternatives in Lavenham that welcome trade and my wife and I have visited regularly since The Swans change of management. The cheaply produced A4 printed sign on the Grade 2 listed front entrance door deterring walk in guests seeking food does not do this amazing heritage building justice BTW. Hard earnt.....easily lost. I wish you well as we approach the Spring/Summer key period of trade.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ We visited The Lavenham Swan this past Monday for my boyfriend’s 29th birthday, and it was an absolutely exceptional experience from start to finish. The food was fantastic, but what truly makes this place stand out is the incredible team: Service & History: A huge thank you to Jake, our waiter, who went above and beyond. He took the time to share the fascinating history of Lavenham and the building itself, which added such a special layer to our dining experience. The blonde lady with curly hair was also fantastic! Housekeeping: Our room was spotlessly clean and tidy—easily one of the best-maintained rooms we’ve stayed in. Kudos to Lila and Bailey for their hard work and attention to detail. The Extra Mile: A special shout-out again to Lila and Ella for the wonderful surprise of bringing birthday fudge to the room! It’s these personal touches and the warm, professional service that made the celebrations feel so extra special. We had an amazing time and can’t recommend The Swan highly enough for a special occasion. We’ll definitely be returning!

What a wonderful experience. We wanted to do something different for new years eve, so a masquerade ball sounded fantastic. We arrived at 2pm and immediately were given an afternoon tea of scones, jam, cream and beverage. Home made and beautiful. We then were shown to our rooms, my wife and I had gone for the 4 poster bed. The room was stunning. After a nice relax and a visit to the spa, we met downstairs for canapés and champagne. Dressed in all our finery, black tie and masks, we went for a 5 course dinner with a dance after. We finished at about 2am and then the next day were taken on a guided tour of Levanham. We spent the day relaxing, having lunch, going to the spa and finished the evening with a 3 course meal. Absolutely marvellous. The whole place was beautiful, bedrooms were amazing. Food was superb, wine list was excellent. Two night package for new years eve; not cheap but money well spent.
