On a 2 day stay nearby so had dinner first night. Fish & chips for me, beef, oxtail & marrowbone pie chefs special for my other half. It was so nice we went back tonight and both had the lasagne. Never had a lasagne like it. Absolutely delicious and both nights portions were huge! Lovely pub, friendly staff & well done to Andy the chef for delivering amazing food. Will be driving up from Chelmsford for another visit any time soon. Highly recomend. Shane & Kim

WOW! We decided to go to our local for a Sunday roast, but arrived and the phone booking had not been picked up. Being just a few miles from Lavenham we called the Cock Horse and they fitted us in. After recent renovation we were unsure what to expect, but were very happily surprised. The front looks so inviting, even in the rain as it was when we arrived, and no mud or puddles either! The interior is equally impressive, classic, but with touches of wonder to draw the eye. We had a table by the window and were served by a delightful young lady who was the epitome of genuine customer service, we ordered a sharing Chicken roast which was £35, two large breasts of chicken, legs, roast potatoes, roast parsnips, red cabbage, carrots, tender stem broccoli, home made Yorkshire puddings and the most divine cauliflower and leek gratin with gravy. We both arrived with big appetites but even then we couldn't finish the meal, so sadly didn't try any desserts, but judging by the quality of the food we were served I can only imagine they are amazing. Our bill for 2, including drinks was £42.50, and in our opinion was really excellent value. (Next time I'll take pictures, but I was hungry!) We will be back!

We had a lovely Sunday lunch here - I had the roast beef and my husband a steak and kidney pudding. His pie was served with mashed potatoes and he said it was lovely - not too stodgy. I has the roast and it was a huge portion. First place I have been to where there were more roast potatoes than I could eat! Whilst the beef was tasty it was fairly tough. That said the price of the food is cheap here so can’t complain especially given the size! I had sticky toffee pudding which was deliciously light. There was lots of toffee sauce and the ice cream was brilliant. All in all a really nice venue, the food is good and the ambience lovely.

This Inn was clean throughout and the restaurant was spacious with enough room between the tables so that we couldn't hear others conversations as usually happens elsewhere. The food was reasonably priced, plentiful and of good quality. My wife had the ham, 2 x eggs and chips and was overwhelmed by the amount of ham provided! I had the fish (which was large with lovely crispy batter) and great chips. There was a very good selection of draught beers. The staff were very friendly, welcoming and efficient. There is a large Council run car park next to the inn with very reasonable charges during the day. We visited this Inn early evening on the 7th of October 2025 on the recommendation of our landlady at the Stansted Hall Farm guesthouse which is just a few miles away. She also had directed us to Lavenham as an interesting historical place to visit. This is certainly true with the houses, shops and church wonderful buildings to see (if you're that way inclined).
