Authentic Stories from Diners
Outstanding place to eat in Ipswich. We ordered the seafood platter which was amazing value for money and every item was fresh and delicious. The sides and sauces were all super flavourful and went perfectly with the fish. Dessert was equally great and you could tell it was freshly made in the kitchen. Staff were lovely and made us feel very welcome, especially as we had a birthday in our party. Couldn’t recommend enough
Visited Ocean Fish Platter a few days ago. This is an immersive review based on close observation of multiple factors and an honest dining experience measured against the price. I believe this will be helpful for both future diners and the restaurant management. First Impression Greeting quality and timing – a slight delay in acknowledging my arrival, and the welcome felt a bit lukewarm. A simple smile could make a strong difference and set a positive tone for the entire meal. Verdict – 3/5 Atmosphere Lighting quality and temperature – warm and cozy. Noise level – light music, likely Turkish, with noticeable noise from the open kitchen, clattering cutlery, and staff conversations. Music curation – could be improved, especially with regard to language selection, as most customers speak English. The wooden floor has several visible scratch marks. Refinishing it could significantly improve the restaurant’s overall perceived quality. Table Set Up and Service Tables are clean and presented with warm décor. Staff are polite and well-dressed. Most appear confident, while a few would benefit from guidance and confidence-building, noticeable in their interaction style and body language. Communication between staff relies mostly on spoken cues rather than visual signals, which may reflect training gaps. I did not notice a manager present, which may leave the team without direct leadership. Verdict – 3.5/5 Portioning Quality and Size Consistent and generous portions that comfortably satisfy. The quality plates retained heat well — my pasta stayed warm for about 20 minutes, which is impressive. Cleanliness of plates and rims – very good. Seasoning was balanced without any overpowering flavours. Drink – Red Wine Moderate quality with a slight off-smell, though acceptable for the price. Verdict – 3.5/5 Starter – Pan Fried Scottish Scallops Tender, juicy, and lightly crisp on the surface with a mild tang. However, the dish lacked deeper flavour. The sauce felt oily, with some sediment at the bottom. Served on an oyster shell balanced over a tomato, cucumber, and lettuce salad. With more flavour development, this could be a standout dish. Delivery time from seating – 8–10 mins Verdict – 3.7/5 Mains – Seafood Tagliatelle Good portion size, well-seasoned, and flavourful. Plenty of seafood, properly cooked and nicely served. Delivery – 15–20 mins after the starter was finished. Verdict – 4.7/5 Dessert – Home Made Apple Crumble Hot, with a crunchy topping and soft, warm apple filling beneath. Served with whipped cream. A generous-sized portion and clearly fresh from the oven. Delivery – 5–7 mins after mains were finished. Verdict – 3.8/5 Total bill – £49 for one Overall Verdict- 3.9/5 Will I return? – Yes, though I would love to see a few improvements.
Absolutely fantastic food, top staff aswell. Especially rate the halibut and oysters. Will definitely visit again
If you’re a seafood lover then you have to visit this restaurant - it’s brilliant! It’s a lot larger inside than it looks from the front and it’s far from a takeaway ‘chippie’. The staff are really nice and helped accommodate us on a large table and were helpful in explaining the menu. The decor is great with plenty to admire and it’s all in good keeping with the seafood vibe. The oyster starter was presented beautifully with all the condiments you’d expect and the sharing platter was truly huge. It was a shame that they swapped the scallops for extra prawns without telling us (due to having run out) but given everything was cooked so beautifully we quickly forgave them! Some of the best seafood I’ve had in a while and there’s certainly options for whatever kind of fish you’re looking for. I’ll be returning as soon as possible!
Eating out is expensive nowadays, so if you do eat out, come somewhere decent like this. Great quality seafood, huge portions, perfect, attentive service. Price the same as all the chain food places Accessibility: two large (say 20cm) steps to get into the restaurant. Didn't use the loos, so no idea on that.
