Authentic Stories from Diners
Having heard lots of people mention The Suffolk, I wanted to see it for myself! I went for a weekday lunch with a friend and we were really impressed. The restaurant is large but openly split into 4 areas which gives it a cosy and relaxed feel. Each area is cleverly flooded with natural light which we loved. We were very warmly greeted, even though we hadn't made a reservation (so we just got lucky that there was space!). The service was attentively relaxed. Drew and his team were never far away and continuously keeping an eye on each table but without continuous interruptions. When they did come to the table, their manner was calm and casual yet highly professional. They all had extensive knowledge of the menu and seemed genuinely excited to chat about what we could expect from each dish. We struggled to narrow down the starters so in the end we ordered most of the starters and had a tapas style meal. Sadly, this meant that we had no room for deserts so that will be for next time! The stand out dish was the scallops on a cauliflower puree which were divine! I can't wait to get back to The Suffolk and hope to do so soon.
Fantastic food in dog friendly environment. It’s a shame they fawned over and prioritised looking after ‘influencers’ in the bar at the expense of other customers who were already seated and then tolerated their badly behaved dog which was allowed to chase after balls rolling around in the bar. It made the place feel cliquey and just too pleased with itself. The food is genuinely first class , just felt they need to adjust service priorities slightly given the high end price point. Oyster Martini - awesome.
A very mixed experience. A warm welcome at reception where our coats were taken and our party of 4 were shown to our table. The menus are very difficult to read. Light ink on a fawn background & poor lighting. When our starters were being served the waitress dropped one on the floor. Accidents do happen. However the other 3 starters of Crab Butternut soup were still served. We had to remind the waitress 20 minutes later that one of our party was still waiting for her first course. The reply was that the kitchen was very busy. On the plus side the quality of the food was good especially the deserts including the spiced rice pudding & profiteroles. In summary the prices are also high for a standard Suffolk restaurant in my opinion. Would I return to The Suffolk, well yes everyone deserves a second chance.
Had a fabulous dinner here last night. Delightful staff - all really friendly, cheerful and helpful. Delicious food - quality ingredients, cooked with great skill, imagination and flair, beautifully presented. We had some of the best crab and beef we've ever had. If it opened on a Monday night, we would go back again for dinner with alacrity!
We visited the restaurant while staying in an Airbnb round the corner - the team here really know how to get things right. We were a little late for our booking after a very long drive; we called to let them know and they understood. Everyone we encountered was friendly, efficient and attentive - perfect service. The food was absolutely outstanding; dressed crab and scallops, bream filleted at the table and delicious desserts. The wine list was reasonably marked up, we couldn't fault anything. Worth the trip to Suffolk all by itself.
