Had a lovely meal here Saturday night. Three courses, with the pear and walnut salad and scallops for starters, smoked haddock gnocchi and fish pie for mains, and toffee pudding and white chocolate and ginger cake for desserts. Everything was amazing, especially the mains and scallops. Would have hoped for a larger salad for the price. Service was great and the staff were friendly and talkative. Was quiet when we arrived (1800 on a Saturday) but V busy when we left. Had a really unusual style which was reminiscent of a school classroom with pencil drawings on the wall and simple wooden furniture. But this gives the place a lot of charm, and keeps things welcoming and unpretentious. Most importantly let's the food do the talking, and as mentioned it was great.
My wife and I enjoyed a lovely lunch at The Lighthouse in early September, making use of a gift voucher we’d received as a Christmas present. This was probably the best meal we’ve had at the restaurant, although it’s always been excellent. My fish soup starter was full of flavour, likewise the seabass main, which came with a lovely lemongrass mash and mango salsa. Two fillets of sea bass was very generous for the price, and my wife thoroughly enjoyed her fish pie. We were lucky enough to sit in the rear courtyard, as it was just about warm enough, but the outside space could do with a little love. A bit of greenery here and there perhaps. That’s the only minor negative.
Superb meal and a very warm welcome from Sam. The fish soup was delicious and the sea bass was exceptional. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening and will definitely visit again.
First impressions of The Lighthouse were a little mixed—it feels more like a casual café than a full-fledged restaurant. However, any initial doubts quickly faded once the food arrived. Opting for a tapas-style lunch, we shared six starters between the three of us. The standout was undoubtedly the local asparagus—perfectly cooked and full of flavour. Other highlights included tender calamari, well-seasoned falafel, a fresh tomato and mozzarella salad, rich duck noodles, and succulent scallops. Each dish was thoughtfully prepared and offered something a bit different. The staff were friendly, welcoming, and attentive throughout, adding to the relaxed, pleasant atmosphere. Our total bill came to £85 for a light lunch for three—reasonable for the quality and variety we enjoyed. Overall, The Lighthouse delivered far more than its unassuming appearance suggested. A great spot for a laid-back yet high-quality meal in Aldeburgh.
Excellent high end (for Aldeburgh) restaurant. The food was delicious and the service was very competent, personal and friendly. We enjoyed the asparagus and the mains in particular. The fish and chips were very good, but there were more interesting things on the menu.
